The first thing you'll notice
When you unbox your boot trees, you’ll probably notice the cedar aroma straight away.
That’s because we use a high proportion of cedar heartwood. Heartwood contains more concentrated cedar oils, which are what give cedar its well-known anti-odour, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.
Cedar Residue
If you notice a white, powder-like substance on the surface, don’t worry. That’s crystallised cedar oil. It can appear with temperature changes.
It’s harmless. Just brush it off or wipe it down with a slightly damp cloth.
You might also see minor oil marks inside the box. Again, harmless and completely normal with natural cedar.
Before you insert them
You’re probably keen to get them into your boots, and we don’t blame you.
If you own lace-up boots, fully unlace them first.
Before inserting, compress the forepart into the heel block once. This primes the spring mechanism and ensures the trees expand into the boot as intended. It takes two seconds and makes sure they’re working properly from the start.
How to insert them
You’re looking for light, even pressure. If you feel like you have to force them in, that’s too much. If they feel loose inside the boot, they’re too small.

How to remove them
Final thoughts
Trimly Boot Trees don’t need much attention. Let them air occasionally. If the cedar fades over time, a very light sand - around 200 grit - will refresh the surface.
